I’ve been seeing a lot of questions lately about switching from semaglutide to tirzepatide, so I wanted to share what I’ve gathered from research and other communities.
Why People Are Switching:
Many people hit a plateau on semaglutide and wonder if tirzepatide might give them a boost. The data actually supports this – in the SURMOUNT-5 trial, tirzepatide showed about 20% average weight loss compared to 14% with semaglutide.
How the Switch Works:
From what I’ve read, switching is actually pretty straightforward:
- Finish your current semaglutide dose
- Wait about a week
- Start tirzepatide at a lower dose (usually 2.5mg or 5mg) even if you were on a higher semaglutide dose
Important Note: You should NOT take both at the same time – it just increases side effects without added benefit.
What to Expect:
- Side effects are similar (nausea, GI issues) but some people find one easier to tolerate than the other
- Appetite suppression might be more pronounced initially
- Keep up your protein intake and hydration!
Has anyone here made the switch? I’d love to hear your experiences! How did the transition go for you?
