⚠️ IMPORTANT: Compounded Semaglutide Update - What You Need to Know

Big news that affects a lot of us - wanted to make sure everyone’s informed.

The Situation:

The FDA removed semaglutide from its drug shortage list in February 2025, which means compounding pharmacies can no longer make copies of commercially available GLP-1s.

Key Dates:

  • 503A pharmacies deadline: April 22, 2025
  • 503B outsourcing facilities deadline: May 22, 2025

What This Means:

If you’re on compounded semaglutide:

  • Regular compounded versions are no longer allowed
  • You may need to switch to brand name (Ozempic/Wegovy)
  • Cost difference is significant ($200-400/mo vs $1,000+/mo)

Exceptions that still exist:

  • Non-standard doses not commercially available
  • Specific medical needs determined by your provider
  • Compounded tirzepatide had similar restrictions

Legal Battles:

The Outsourcing Facilities Association sued the FDA, claiming the decision was “reckless and arbitrary.” Courts are still reviewing this.

What To Do:

  1. Talk to your provider about options
  2. Check your insurance coverage for brand versions
  3. Look into manufacturer savings programs
  4. Don’t panic - there are still paths forward

This is stressing me out honestly

I’ve been on compounded sema for 4 months and it’s been working so well. The thought of paying $1000+/month for brand name is just not realistic for me.

Has anyone successfully gotten insurance to cover Wegovy? What did you have to do? My doctor said they usually deny it the first time.

omg im kinda new to this… is that how it works?
